The experience
Mumbai chases money and stardom, yet every morning it queues barefoot at its temples. This tour follows that quieter pulse across the city's most beloved shrines — each devoted to a different face of the divine.
Begin at Siddhivinayak, where film stars and taxi drivers stand in the same line for Lord Ganesha's blessing. Continue to Mahalaxmi, perched over the sea and dedicated to the goddess of wealth — fitting patroness for this city — then climb to Babulnath, one of Mumbai's oldest Shiva temples. The ornate marble stillness of the Jain temple on Malabar Hill and the joyful colours of the Radha Krishna temple complete the circuit of deities.
The finale is the most atmospheric spot in Mumbai: Banganga Tank, a stepped sacred pool over a thousand years old, hidden in a fold of Malabar Hill — legend says an arrow from Lord Rama himself drew the Ganges up through the rock here.
Good to know
- Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered); shoes come off at every temple — slip-ons save time.
- Some inner sanctums restrict photography and non-Hindu entry; your guide will navigate gracefully.
- Mornings are best — aartis are livelier and queues shorter.
