The experience

On the island, a cheerful toy train trundles you past Gharapuri village to the base of the hill, where 120 stone steps climb through a gauntlet of souvenir stalls and opportunistic monkeys to one of India's great wonders: cave temples hewn straight into basalt some 1,500 years ago.
